100 years young

A ragtime band, carriage rides and yesteryear photography displays will highlight a day-long birthday party Oct. 1 for the 100-year-old Hotel Schenley, now Pitt's William Pitt Union (WPU). A turn-back-the-clock theme will help recreate the ambiance of the late-19th century, as bellhops, costumed strollers and a barbershop quartet appear throughout the day, topped off with the cutting of a birthday cake at noon on the WPU Bigelow porch. A Forbes Field historian, a stilt-walker and W.C. Fields and Mae West look-a-likes are expected to join in the fun.

The events are free and open to the public.
