Think globally, act locally, kick a soccer ball, explore international careers, meet foreign students, watch movies, confront cultural stereotypes, peruse art and photos, eat, drink, dance…

Those will be among the options during Pitt's International Week, Sept. 21-26.

"We've put together a wide-ranging schedule of events including everything from international entertainment to very practical things like a discussion of global career opportunities," said Elaine Linn of the University Center for International Studies, who is coordinating the annual event.

* A discussion, "Your Future in the Global Marketplace: Are You Ready?", Sept. 21, noon-1:30 p.m. in the William Pitt Union lower lounge. Professionals from business, engineering and law will discuss issues and challenges of starting international careers.

* A cross-cultural workshop for staff and faculty, Sept. 23, 9-11 a.m. in the William Pitt Union lower lounge. Through discussions, group exercises and film clips, participants will examine cultural stereotypes about Asians, Latin Americans and people from eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

* A Sept. 25 International Day symposium and exhibition on "The Globalization of Human Services," featuring human service professionals, policy makers and academicians, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the William Pitt Union.

* A three-day, co-ed soccer tournament, with simultaneous games to be played at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. on the Cathedral of Learning lawn, Sept. 23-25. Plus a series of international coffeehouses, an international film festival, a human rights discussion of refugees and U.S. law and, capping off the week, Pitt's annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival, Sept. 26, noon-10:30 p.m., in the William Pitt Union.
