Thad P. Zaleskiewicz, professor of physics at the Greensburg campus, has been elected president of the Contemporary Physics Education Project (CPEP), a non-profit organization of research physicists, teachers and educators.

Zaleskiewicz is a founding member of CPEP and, with colleagues, has presented teacher training workshops in elementary particle physics, plasma physics and nuclear physics in dozens of cities including Washington, Denver, Orlando, San Antonio, Columbus and New Orleans. In addition, he works with CPEP in developing and producing teaching materials for high school and introductory college physics and chemistry classes.

Eric Moe, associate professor of music, has won a 1998-99 cash award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), for his newest original compositions. It is the 11th consecutive year Moe has won a ASCAP award. Moe's scores and list of recent performances were reviewed by a panel of judges that included Fred Sherry, world-reowned cellist and member of the Chamber Music Society; Jo Ann Falletta, music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Long Beach Symphony and Virginia Symphony orchestras; Tim Page, classical music critic for the Washington Post, and others. Moe is the director of composition and theory in Pitt's music department.

Arthur M. Feldman, Harry S. Tack Professor of Medicine and director of the Cardiovascular Institute of UPMC Health System, has been named president of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). The HFSA represents the first organized effort by heart failure experts to provide a forum for those interested in congestive heart failure and provides a forum for the presentation of basic, clinical and population-based research.

A graduate of Gettysburg College, Feldman received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and his M.D. from Louisiana State University. He was an intern, resident and cardiology fellow at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Feldman was associate professor of medicine and director of the Peter Belfer Laboratory for Molecular Biology of Heart Failure at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In addition, he was director of the heart failure research program in Johns Hopkins' division of cardiology.

He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Basic Science Council of the American Heart Association (AHA). He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation Reseach, the executive committee of the council on clinical cardiology of the AHA, and he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
