Information Sciences establishes Corbett memorial

The School of Information Sciences has established a memorial fund dedicated to Margaret Mary "Peg" Corbett, former secretary in the Department of Library and Information Science, who died last year. Proceeds will fund a student award within the department. Proceeds also provided a planter with a flowering crabapple tree for the patio of the school's building, intended as the beginning of a patio garden.

The Margaret Mary Corbett Memorial Award will be given annually to the best dissertation proposal defended in the department and will provide support for the winner's research. A plaque with the winners' names will be hung permanently in the department.

Speakers at the tree dedication and award inauguration ceremony, held Sept. 14, included Margaret Kimmel and Edie Rasmussen, former chairs of the department; Theresa Benedek, administrative assistant to the dean, and Sally Douglas, Corbett's sister.

Contributions to the Corbett fund can be made by contacting the dean's office, School of Information Sciences.
