In Brief: Performance Innovation Tournament Proposals Due March 14

Pitt’s first-annual Performance Innovation Tournament is seeking applications for proposals for innovations that address problems faced by athletes, their coaches and trainers — specifically, innovations that enhance training, reduce injuries, increase physical and mental strength and endurance and ultimately improve human performance.

The tournament, presented by the Innovation Institute, the Department of Athletics, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Research, is designed to stimulate cross-campus collaborations in the area of human performance.

A total of $150,000 in funding will be awarded. First place will  receive $80,000 and four 2018 Pitt football season tickets and second place will receive $70,000. Prize money can be used to develop prototypes and conduct technology testing in a real-world athletics environment. All award winners and runners-up will also be provided with connections to resources on campus and in the region to help them advance the potential of their discoveries.

The deadline to submit a proposal for the tournament is Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Click here for information and to apply. Semifinalists will compete in a multiple round “pitch tournament” on April 11, 2018.
