GSPH interim dean named

Herbert Rosenkranz has been appointed interim dean of Pitt's Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) effective Nov. 1.

Rosenkranz received his B.S. in chemistry from the City College of New York in 1954, and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cornell University Medical College in 1959. Before coming to GSPH, he held professorships and chairs at Columbia University and at Case. In addition to chairing the environmental and occupational health department, Rosenkranz is the founder and director of the Center for Environmental and Occupational Health and Toxicology, which opened in January 1993 as a collaboration between GSPH and UPMC Health System. Thomas Detre, former senior vice chancellor for Health Sciences, said, "Herb Rosenkranz is an extraordinary researcher and administrator. I am confident in his ability to guide the multidisciplinary teams of the school into the next millennium."
