Conte to return as registrar

Conte to return as registrar

After six months as a university administrator in Miami, Samuel D. Conte is planning to return to Pitt as University registrar on July 1.

Conte, whose Pitt career spanned three decades, resigned as registrar here to become associate vice president for enrollment at Florida International University, effective Sept. 1.

"I love my job here, but I really miss Pittsburgh and Pitt," Conte said in a telephone interview from Miami. "I much preferred living in Pittsburgh to living in south Florida. It's a totally different lifestyle here."

In a letter announcing Conte's return, Provost James Maher wrote, "I am delighted that he [Conte] has accepted my invitation to return to his academic home."

Conte worked in Pitt's Department of Public Safety and in Management Services and Student Business Services before becoming University registrar in 1986. He earned his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Pitt.

"Dr. Conte's commitment to the University is deeply rooted and has been long recognized," Provost Maher wrote. "I look forward to his continuing to provide the institution with his consistently high level of dedication and exceptional service."
