UPMCHS initiates virtual transcription service

UPMCHS initiates virtual transcription service

UPMC Health System has begun a virtual transcription service using Internet-based technology to provide fast, accurate and secure electronic transmission of dictated and transcribed medical reports.

Physicians dial in, provide ID numbers, then dictate their reports. Transcriptionists, using specialized software, retrieve the secure, encrypted voice files from the system's server via the Internet. After reports are typed, they are re-encrypted, returned to the Internet server and then to clients through an automatic distribution method.
