Honoring UPB's president

A reception was held May 2 in honor of Richard E. McDowell (far right), who has served as Bradford campus president for 25 years. During McDowell's tenure, the regional campus has grown from a two-year school to a four-yea r college offering 39 bachelor's and professional programs. Under his leadership, Bradford's endowment has grown to more than $16 million.

McDowell earned his Ph.D. in biology from St. Louis University and later worked at the Argonne National Laboratory. Prior to his appointment as president in 1973 at age 29, he served as assistant professor of biology and director of admissions at the regi onal campus and later as assistant to the president for academic affairs.
