Trisha Morris has been named director of library services at the Bradford campus. Morris comes from Spangler Library at Ohio Dominican College, where she served as library director. She has also held librarian positions at Southern Ohio College NE, University of Kentucky-Prestonburg and Penn State-DuBois.

Morris earned a B.A. in sociology and a Master's of Library Science from Kent State.

Kathryn Puskar, associate professor of nursing, has been selected as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a national organization that acknowledges outstanding contributions to the nursing profession. Her research focuses on the promotion of mental health for women and adolescents who experience stressful life events.

John Clochesy, associate professor and assistant dean of nursing, received the University of Wisconsin-Madison Nursing Alumni Organization's Distinguished Alumnus Achievement Award. He also has been selected as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and has earned the 1996 Norma J. Shoemaker Grant for Critical Care Nursing Research from the Society for Critical Care Medicine.

Clochesy's research involves the scientific basis for the care of physiologically unstable patients.

Gary Foulks has assumed a new post as professor and chair, Department of Ophthalmology, UPMC. Foulks, who came to UPMC from Duke University Eye Center, has a particular interest in high-risk corneal transplants.

William Welch has been named director of neurosurgical spine services of the Department of Neurosurgery at UPMC. Welch, who came to UPMC in 1994, is assistant professor of neurological surgery and of orthopaedic surgery and is co-director of UPMC's Comprehensive Spine Center. n Douglas K. Hartman, associate professor in the School of Education's Department of Instruction and Learning, has been chosen a 1996-97 National Academy of Education Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. Hartman will use the Spencer fellowship to complete his most recent research project, which is a four-year study of the reading, writing, viewing and listening habits of African-American male adolescents.

The National Academy of Education Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowships are administered by the National Academy of Education and are funded by the Spencer Foundation in Chicago. They are the only fellowships in education research for recent recipients of the doctorate.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has named Raymond L. Vargo to assistant director. He holds a B.S. degree from Penn State University and an M.B.A. from California University of Pennsylvania.
