Katz establishes Marshall chair

The Katz Graduate School of Business has established the Thomas Marshall Chair in Marketing and named Wagner Kamakura as the first Marshall chairholder.

Marshall is the retired chief executive officer of Aristech Chemical Corp. and a member of both Pitt's Board of Trustees and the Katz school's Board of Visitors. The chair is funded at $1 million.

"Tom Marshall has a long history of service to the University and the community at large," said Katz Dean Emeritus H. J. Zoffer. "He has been an outstanding business leader and his current generosity is indicative of his commitment to higher education in general and the Katz school in particular." Marshall earned his bachelor's degree in business administration at Pitt. He is a recipient of the Katz school's Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Prior to becoming CEO of Aristech, Marshall served as executive vice president for the former U.S. Steel Corp. Marshall chair holder Kamakura earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas-Austin and is a member of the Katz school's marketing faculty. Kamakura's research focuses on the development of marketing models, with applications to new product development and forecasting, marketing research, market segmentation, market structure analysis and micro marketing. His work has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Management Science, Marketing Science and the International Journal of Research in Marketing.
