Deadline to apply for faculty study abroad grants: Dec. 2

The 1997 John G. Bowman Faculty Grants for Study Abroad are now available.

The 10 grants of $1,000 each are funded by an endowment in memory of Bowman, who served as Pitt chancellor from 1921 to 1945.

Bowman conceived, planned and worked to fund construction of the Cathedral of Learning. He also established the Nationality Rooms Program in 1926.

The grants are offered to full-time faculty members to enhance the quality of their teaching through travel abroad, according to Nationality Rooms Director Maxine Bruhns.

Grant recipients must return to teach at Pitt for at least two terms upon competition of their study or research abroad. The proposed study or research must directly relate to a course that the faculty member teaches or is preparing to teach.

Application forms are available from the Nationality Rooms Program office, 1209 Cathedral of Learning. The deadline for submission is Dec. 2. For more information, call 624-6150.
