Bosnian education leaders meeting here
Sixteen Bosnian educational leaders, representing all 10 regions of the newly formed Bosnian Federation, are meeting at Pitt to plan teacher education reform in their country.
The visit, which will end Nov. 9, is being hosted by Pitt's Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE) and will include trips to Mars Elementary School, Arsenal Middle School, Fox Chapel High School and the Apollo-Ridge School District.
With support from the World Bank, IISE faculty and the Bosnian educators, among them representatives from the Federated Ministry of Education, have been working to renew teacher education and student recovery efforts in Bosnia.
During the sessions, participants will seek to identify historical, political, social and economic issues that influence educational reform. They also will examine how teachers and students learn in light of post-war trauma and curriculum changes.
An educational strategic action plan for restructuring education in Bosnia, including possible recommendations for international funding, will be developed during the visit.
