Richard P. Stiger

Richard P. Stiger, a 20-year veteran of the Pitt campus police force, died Oct. 31 of cancer. He was 60.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Church of the Ascension, 4729 N. Ellsworth Ave.

In addition to serving as a Pitt police officer, Stiger in 1986 founded a Boy Scouts law enforcement explorer post. For the last decade he managed the program, which enables local young people to interact with Pitt police officers and explore law enforcement careers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University's Semester at Sea program, 811 William Pitt Union. Stiger sailed on the fall 1990 Semester at Sea voyage as a security officer. He was the first Pitt police officer to do so.

Stiger is survived by his father, Richard M.; a brother, Kenneth R.; his children, Richard M. and Cynthia A.; and five grandchildren. All of the surviving family members reside in Pittsburgh.
