Board of Trustees chair Ralph J. Cappy and vice chair Suzanne W. Broadhurst were re-elected to one-year terms in their respective positions during the board’s June 23 meeting.

Cappy is chief justice of Pennsylvania; Broadhurst is director of corporate giving for Eat ‘n Park Hospitality Group.

Elected as the board’s other vice chair was Robert M. Hernandez, chair of RTI International Metals, Inc.. He succeeds outgoing vice chair Thomas Bigley, retired managing partner of Ernst & Young.

Also during the meeting, trustees:

• Extended Pitt’s capital campaign goal to $2 billion. (See related story this issue.)

• Elected new members and re-elected others to the board and its executive committee.

• Elected and re-elected University directors and members of the UPMC board of directors executive committee and the UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside board of directors.

Trustee Marlee S. Myers was elected as a member of the Pitt board’s executive committee. Myers is a partner in the business and finance practice of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and managing partner of the firm’s Pittsburgh office.

Alumni Keith E. Schaefer and John A. Swanson were elected as members of the University’s board. Schaefer is president and chief executive officer of BPL Global, Ltd.;

Swanson is president of Swanson Analysis Services, Inc.

Re-elected to the board were Hernandez;

Andrew J. Kuzneski Jr., president of A.J. Kuzneski Jr., Inc.;

Robert G. Lovett, partner, Lovett Bookman Harmon Marks LLP; Myers;

Thomas H. O’Brien, retired chair of PNC Financial Services Group;

William E. Trueheart, president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation;

Thomas J. Usher, chair of Marathon Oil Corp., and

Sam S. Zacharias, principal, Gateway Financial Group, Inc.

Zacharias also was re-elected as a trustee of the University of Pittsburgh Trust.

Re-elected to the Pitt board’s executive committee were

Eva Tansky Blum, senior vice president, PNC Financial Services Group;

John G. Conomikes, chair of the executive committee of Hearst Argyle Television, Inc.;

George L. Miles Jr., president and CEO of WQED Pittsburgh;

O’Brien, and Robert A. Paul, chair and CEO of AMPCO-Pittsburgh Corp.

In addition, Cappy announced that Pittsburgh native Morgan K. O’Brien, president and CEO of Duquesne Light Holdings, has been appointed by Gov. Edward G. Rendell as a commonwealth trustee.

Cappy was re-elected as second vice chair of the UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside board of directors.

Elected as a University director on the board was Adele L. Towers, president of the UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside medical staff and assistant professor in the medical school’s Division of Geriatric Medicine.

Re-elected to the board was Jeannette E. South-Paul, Andrew W. Mathieson Professor and chair, in the medical school’s Department of Family Medicine.
