Venango County medical center affiliates with UPMC
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) has signed an affiliation agreement with Northwest Medical Center in Venango County.
The affiliation does not involve either a merger or an acquisition. Northwest will remain an independent health care system. The agreement calls for the two organizations to develop a strategic plan that will identify possible cooperative ventures.
According to a joint statement by UPMC President Jeffrey Romoff and Northwest Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Neil Todhunter, the cooperative ventures will include advanced specialty care, rotation of physician residents, emergency medical transport and physician recruitment.
Northwest operates hospitals in Oil City and Franklin, and family practice centers in Venango, Clarion, Forest, Mercer and Butler counties.
