Benefits glitch corrected

About 100 faculty and staff who changed their medical insurance coverage for the next fiscal year mistakenly were sent letters telling them they had chosen not to participate in any Pitt medical insurance plans.

Corrected letters were mailed to those employees last week, said James Edgerton, Pitt director of compensation and benefits. He blamed the error on Deloitte and Touche, the firm that provides the service enabling Pitt personnel to make benefits choices by touchtone phone.

"The error was in the computer program that printed the acknowledgment statements. It didn't affect the primary database entries that faculty and staff made by touchtone telephone," Edgerton said.

Employees who have questions should call 624-8160.

Benefits changes take effect July 1.
