Sock-a-thon runs through March 2

Pitt’s Volunteer Pool is sponsoring a sock-a-thon to aid the homeless and needy during the winter months. The effort runs through March 2. New socks can be dropped off at the Volunteer Pool Office, 710 Alumni Hall.

The Volunteer Pool also is supporting “National Wear Red Month,” an effort to raise awareness about women’s cardiac health. As part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women program, February is designated as a time for supporters to wear a red item of clothing to help raise awareness about risk factors, warning signs and health initiatives related to cardiac health. Enameled red dress pins can be purchased for $5 and red wristbands for $2. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.

Pitt is showing its support by lighting the top of the Cathedral of Learning in red during February.
