History dept. to host Latin American journal

Pitt has been selected to host the editorial offices of the Hispanic American Historical Review, the flagship journal of historical scholarship on Latin America, for a five-year period beginning in July.

Pitt history professors George Reid Andrews, Alejandro de la Fuente and Lara Putnam will serve as senior editors of the journal; professors Paul Eiss and John Soluri of Carnegie Mellon University will serve as associate editors/book review editors.

Among the activities surrounding the Hispanic American Historical Review’s stay at Pitt will be a series of yearly workshops, which will convene small groups of scholars from around the world to debate emerging themes within historical and other research on Latin America.

Pitt’s successful bid to host the journal was made possible by the support of the School of Arts and Sciences dean’s office, the Center for Latin American Studies and the Provost’s office.
