Lane closures continue in Oakland

Drivers heading into Oakland on the Boulevard of the Allies will need to prepare for intermittent lane closures and brief traffic stoppages from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through August as contractors install drainage systems as part of the Boulevard of the Allies bridge replacement project.

Traffic on Fifth Avenue be-tween Craft Avenue and the Birmingham Bridge has been shifted to the left lane to allow crews to construct islands and curbs.

A single left-lane closure on Forbes Avenue from Moultrie Street to the Parkway East off-ramp and a left-lane closure on Route 885 near the existing bridge will continue as well, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The two-year, $29 million project includes the demolition and reconstruction of the mainline bridge over Forbes Avenue, the replacement of south and north ramps with new roadway ramps and the elimination of the contra-flow traffic lane on Forbes Avenue.

Updates on the project are available online at www.otma-pgh.org.
