Chancellor Mark Nordenberg has appointed a search committee to identify a permanent director of athletics. Nordenberg this month named long-time Pitt athletics administrator Donna D. Sanft as interim director of athletics, succeeding Jeff Long, athletics director here since 2003, who accepted a similar position at the University of Arkansas.

The committee is chaired by Executive Vice Chancellor Jerome Cochran and includes Susan Albrecht, Pitt’s NCAA faculty athletic representative; Tom Bigley, Pitt trustee and former chair of the trustees’ athletics committee; Marcus Bowman, director of athletic business operations; Kirk Bruce, assistant athletics director for Olympic sports; John Conomikes, Pitt trustee and chair of the athletics committee, and Carol Sprague, senior associate athletics director.

No timetable has been established for an athletics director appointment.
