U.S. Steel Foundation funds scholarships

The United States Steel Foundation has awarded Pitt grants totaling $605,000 to support a number of student-based initiatives. The major portion of these funds — $500,000 — will be used to establish five endowed scholarships: two each in the Swanson School of Engineering and the College of Business Administration and one for a student majoring either in information technology in the School of Information Sciences or computer science in the School of Arts and Sciences.

The foundation also will provide $100,000 to update the teaching laboratory for undergraduate classes that teach measurement and instrumentation in mechanical engineering and materials science.

Additionally, the Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association, which provides academic support, professional development programs and volunteer and social activities for underrepresented undergraduate students in the College of Business Administration, will receive $5,000 from the foundation.
