Pitt-Bradford has established a new scholarship fund, the Miles-to-Go Scholarship and Endowment Fund, in honor of longtime UPB advisory board member Madeline Miles.

The fund will provide scholarship aid to students in the campus media and subsidize the cost of student travel. The fund also will bring together the Pitt-Bradford community members and the citizens of Bradford to support the connections between the world of college and the world of work.

Fund chairs Howard L. Fesenmyer and James D. Guelfi have raised $20,000 toward the fund’s goal of $100,000. Half of the fund will go to support stipends for the student managers of the college’s media: radio station WDRQ; the newspaper The Source, and the literary magazine Baily’s Beads. Each medium will develop programming that highlights items such as Bradford history, the environment and current affairs.

The other half of the fund will support student research and travel activities, such as conference attendance. Part of the money will help support the communication division’s annual trip to New York City.

Miles has served on the UPB board for 28 years. In 2007, she was awarded Pitt-Bradford’s Presidential Medal of Distinction.

She was a speech pathologist and an early education consultant for the Vermont Department of Education until her retirement to her hometown of Bradford in 1978.
