A&S funds Cave Canem
The School of Arts and Sciences has awarded $200,000 to support Cave Canem Foundation’s retreat for African-American poets at Pitt-Greensburg, 2008-2012.
Pitt professor of English Toi Derricotte co-founded Cave Canem with poet Cornelius Eady to remedy the under-representation of African-American poets in MFA programs and at writing workshops.
The Cave Canem retreat annually serves 54 African-American poets from diverse backgrounds and ages who come together for a week of writing, presentations and debate.
