Science 2008: Raichle delivers Hofmann lecture

Brain function researcher Marcus E. Raichle delivered the annual Klaus Hofmann Lecture Oct. 3 at Science 2008.

Raichle has developed techniques to study neurophysiology and biochemistry and has defined a “default network” of regions in the brain that handle background mental thoughts and processes.

He is a professor of radiology, neurology, neurobiology, biomedical engineering and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Established in 1999 in honor of the late biochemistry professor Klaus Hofmann, the annual lecture recognizes a basic scientist whose work has clear clinical relevance.
