Residence Life staffers prepare to scare

Residence Life staffers Samantha Comarnitsky and Simeon Saunders check their inventory of spooky items for the Nightmare in the Quad and Haunted Holland events set for 7-10 p.m. Oct. 30.

Saunders, residence director for Bruce, Brackenridge and McCormick halls, and Comarnitsky, residence director for Holland Hall, are advisers to the Resident Student Association volunteers who stage the Halloween-themed events each October.

Aimed at students but open to the University community, this year’s Nightmare in the Quad celebration will feature snacks, a balloon artist, music, pumpkin painting, a costume contest and trick-or-treat candy. For those who dare, a $1 donation to charity will provide visitors with an elevator ride to the depths of the Holland Hall basement, which will be haunted with themes that prey on common fears.

This year’s Haunted Holland will benefit CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Pittsburgh’s “New You” program, which distributes handmade satchels filled with therapeutic and inspirational items to women undergoing chemotherapy.
