Children's Hospital records system recognized

Children’s Hospital has joined a group of only 22 U.S. hospitals — and is only one of two pediatric facilities — to be recognized by the leading health care technology industry organization for its advanced use of a comprehensive electronic medical record (EMR).

HIMSS Analytics, a branch of the Health Information and Management Systems Society, certified Children’s as a Stage 6 hospital for its adoption of the computerized charting, record-keeping, order-entry and documentation system known as Children’s eRecord. Stage 7 is the highest level of EMR certification issued by HIMSS Analytics.

Children’s eRecord has been implemented in all inpatient areas, including the emergency and intensive care units, and is in the final stages of implementation in outpatient clinics and perioperative services.

By using a hospital-wide network of desktop, wall-mounted, wireless handheld and cart-mounted computer devices and large-screen monitors, Children’s has increased standardization, integration of care, timeliness and efficiency, hospital officials said.

HIMSS Analytics collected data from more than 5,000 hospitals in the United States and Canada to provide a current review of EMR implementations.
