Office of International Services offers tax help

For the first time, the Office of International Services (OIS) is making available to all international students, scholars, faculty and staff software designed to assist with income tax filing.

The program, called CINTAX: Complete International Tax Preparation, is a web-based software program designed for “nonresident aliens” to prepare U.S. federal income tax Forms 1040NR and 1040NR-EZ.

Pitt students, scholars, faculty and staff with nonimmigrant visa status must file federal income tax returns regardless of whether they earned income. Internationals also must file state and local income tax returns.

The deadline for filing income tax returns is April 15.

OIS partnered with Computer Services and Systems Development to implement CINTAX and make it available on the University’s web portal.

For directions on how to access CINTAX, go to www.ois.pitt.edu/pdf/TaxInfo2005.pdf. OIS advisers are available to answer general tax questions at 708 William Pitt Union, Monday-Thursday, noon-4 p.m.
