Obituary: Mark O. Gustine

Long-time Facilities Management staff member Mark O. Gustine died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2009. He was 53.

Gustine started at Pitt in 1984 as a custodian. He had been stationed at Mervis Hall for the past 10 years.

“Mark was an exemplary employee, a good worker who was always on time,” said Will Mitchell, senior manager of custodial services. “He was quiet and kept to himself for the most part, but was well-liked. His death is a shock to all of us.”

Gustine is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children Heather, Kelly, Patrick and Frank; brothers Frank and Robert, and sisters Joanne and Mary Louise.

Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Jan. 8 and 9 at William Slater II Funeral Service, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Township. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 10 in St. Winifred Church, 550 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Mt. Lebanon.

Donations in Gustine’s memory may be made to the Seton-LaSalle High School Tuition Assistance Program, 1000 McNeilly Rd., Pittsburgh 15226.
