UPT recognized for food collection efforts

The Titusville campus received a certificate of recognition from Barb Van Epps, executive director of Love, Inc., for providing food to children in the Titusville Area School District.

Love, Inc., a national organization, began a backpack program to help feed more than 30 children in the district. Many of these children rely on free or reduced-priced school lunches during the school year. The backpack program is designed to meet their needs when other resources are not available, such as on weekends and during school vacations.

The children in the program, ranging from preschoolers to 6th graders, receive a backpack every Friday that is filled with donated food to take home for the weekend. The backpack consists of nonperishable food items, packaged drinks, breakfast items and snacks.

Mary Ann Caton, assistant professor of history and political science, organized the food drive.
