SAC elects Watkins president

Long-time staffer and 20-plus year member of the Staff Association Council Gwendolyn L. Watkins has been elected as SAC’s new president. (See related story this issue.)

Watkins most recently served as SAC’s vice president of steering.

SAC elected new officers at its June 17 meeting. Officers serve two-year terms beginning at the conclusion of SAC’s June meeting.

Also elected were Rich Colwell, vice president of steering; Annabelle Clippinger, vice president of marketing and communications, and Angela Coldren, treasurer.

Colwell recently completed six years as SAC’s president — the maximum number of three consecutive two-year terms. Clippinger recently had served as chair of the elections committee (resigning as chair in order to run for office), and Coldren most recently was vice president of marketing and communications, concluding her maximum three terms in that position.

The results of the balloting were announced by Pamela Weid, interim elections committee chair. The full SAC membership in attendance June 17 endorsed the election results unanimously.

In other SAC developments:

• Weid requested that SAC act as a group to protest recent cuts in Port Authority service to Oakland. “Port Authority is making major cuts to three buses that provide service to Oakland. Pitt is the second largest employer in Allegheny County. They’re doing a disservice to our community. I would like to know what committee to go to, to see if we, as SAC, can have some communication on this,” Weid said.

Fred Schiffer, chair of SAC’s safety and security committee, reported that Ken Doty is SAC’s representative on the University-wide parking and transportation committee. Doty is expected to bring Weid’s complaint to that committee, Schiffer said.

• The orientation luncheon for new SAC members, who serve as non-voting associate members for six months, is set for noon July 22 in the William Pitt Union lower lobby.

• Tickets remain on sale for the annual Pitt Kennywood Day, set for Aug. 1. For more information, contact the SAC office, 4-4236.
