Another week, another road construction project

Just as the Forbes Avenue Betterment Project is winding down, get ready for similar work on the Boulevard of the Allies.

Starting July 11 (weather permitting), the Boulevard of the Allies Betterment Project will begin with single-lane restrictions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights between the Birmingham Bridge and Bates Street through early August. Daylight work requiring single-lane restrictions may occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

The $7.08 million project includes milling and resurfacing, concrete patching, minor structure repairs, traffic signal replacement at Bates Street, ADA curb ramp work, utility adjustments, and bicycle safe grate installation between the Liberty Bridge and Bates Street, according to a news release from PennDOT.

When construction shifts to the area between the Birmingham Bridge and the ramps to the Crosstown Boulevard and Liberty Bridge, lane restrictions will occur in this section. Two weekend closures for paving operations may be needed and will be announced at a later time.

PennDOT said work will be coordinated with other projects in the same vicinity. The project is projected to conclude by late January 2020.

Work on Forbes Avenue will continue this weekend, if weather permits. Crews will be milling, paving and line painting between South Craig Street and Margaret Morrison Street from 8 p.m. Friday night through 6 p.m. Sunday evening.  Eastbound traffic will be detoured at South Craig Street. A single-lane will be open on westbound Forbes Avenue.
