Athletics Department teams up for service project

Members of the Pitt Athletics Department on June 7 partnered on a community service project in Homewood.

The Pitt employees worked with people from Mission Continues, a national veterans organization, and Operation Better Block, a group dedicated to the revitalization of the Homewood-Brushton neighborhoods, on transforming a vacant lot into an educational green space.

Pitt Athletics employees helped with painting fences, planting flowers and leveling the lot on North Murtland Street, one block from Westinghouse High School.

Athletic Director Heather Lyke, who was out with other from her staff to help, told Pittsburgh Sports Now: “Every year one of our summer goals is to do an athletic department community service event. It’s really our chance to unite among one another and give back.”
