In Brief: April Events Include Sustainability Week, Drug Take Back Event

Sustainability Week is April 14-20

Faculty and staff can learn more about being ecofriendly during Pitt Sustainability Week, April 14-20.

Events throughout the week demonstrate ways to improve the University’s environmental impact through activities such as bicycling, composting, recycling and upcycling, in alignment withthe recently released Pitt Sustainability Plan

The full Sustainability Week schedule is here. Among the highlights:

  • The Office of PittServes is coordinating multiple on-campus and Oakland-based Sustainability Service Day projects on April 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration information is here
  • The Pitt Farmers Market outside the William Pitt Union returns April 19. Additional summer dates are May 10, May 24, June 7 and June 21. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sustainability Week concludes April 20 with a Student Sustainability Symposium at 1 p.m. featuring project presentations by students in environmental studies faculty member Ward Allebach’s sustainability course. A keynote address on mobilization and success of student entrepreneurship by Melissa Lee, founder of the GREEN Program, follows at 4 p.m.

Pitt Pharmacy Drug Take Back Day Set for April 19

Unused or expired medications can be disposed of at the biannual Drug Take Back Day on Thursday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Pharmacy in Nordenberg Hall. An average of 200 pounds of drugs are turned in at the event, hosted since 2015 by the School of Pharmacy and Pitt Generation Rx.

Drugs accepted include prescriptions, non-leaking liquids, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, pet medications, creams, gels and ointments.

The event does not accept the following: needles, syringes, EpiPen, injectables, inhalers, IV bags, thermometers, chemo medications, lancets and test strips.
