Chinese Affinity Group to have New Year celebration

The Chinese Affinity Group will kick off Chinese New Year with a party for the Pitt community.

Part of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Pitt Communities, the Chinese Affinity Group will host a party from 6 to 10 p.m. Jan. 24 in the ballroom of the O’Hara Student Center.

The celebration will offer networking opportunities with representatives from other Pitt Communities and the Pitt Chinese Student and Scholar Association. Participants can expect games, dance performances and dinner from Sichuan Gourmet.

The Chinese Affinity Group is one of several Pitt Communities featuring faculty and staff linked by race, culture, gender or sexual orientation. It was created in March 2016 and has more than 190 members.

Bing Wang, an associate professor with the School of Medicine, said the group is “uniquely positioned to provide a platform to comprehensively engage the Chinese community at Pitt with the ultimate goal of attracting and retaining the quality of faculty and staff.

“After a busy year, it is time for everyone to get together for a healthy, wealthy, new 2020,” Bing said. “We hope all members will join this event as it promises to be bigger than ever. The CAG committee is very honored and excited to organize this celebration.”
