Compensation committee approves salary for Board of Trustees secretary

The Board of Trustees Compensation committee met this week to approve a pay scale of $250,000 annually for Rosalyn Jones, vice chancellor and secretary of the Board of Trustees.

Jones was hired in December 2020 as associate vice chancellor and deputy secretary of the board to replace Cynthia Moore, who left Pitt at the end of 2019 to serve as secretary and special counsel to the Board of Trustees for the University of Tennessee.

Kathy Humphrey served as secretary of the Board of Trustees until her departure at the end of June. The board voted to move Jones into that position and make her an officer of the University as of July 1, 2021.

Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said at the Oct. 18 committee meeting that the pay level was established after looking at external peer groups and internal markets. The pay will be retroactive to July 1.

Jones, who has a law degree from Harvard University, came to Pitt after spending five years as deputy secretary and senior counsel for special projects at Howard University.
