Godley adds interim vice provost of undergraduate studies title

Amanda Godley, vice provost for graduate studies, has added interim vice provost for undergraduate studies to her titles. The position was most recently held by Joe McCarthy, who became interim provost in July.

McCarthy also announced that Juan Manfredi, who served as vice provost for undergraduate studies from 2010-17, will return for a one-year appointment as associate vice provost for undergraduate studies. Manfredi is a mathematics professor and former associate dean for undergraduate studies in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.

“Thank you all for your patience, flexibility and ongoing commitment during these transitional days as we forge ahead into the new academic year,” McCarthy said in his announcement.

In addition, April Belback, who has been serving as director of student success and helped launch the Student Success Hub in 2022, has been promoted to the new position of associate vice provost of student success and advising.

Manfredi and Belback will report to Amanda Godley, as will Belkys Torres, associate vice provost for inclusive education. Godley also will oversee the efforts of the Office of the Registrar. Daren Ellerbee in the Educational Outreach Center will report to McCarthy.

Godley has been at Pitt since 2002 and is a professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leading in the School of Education with secondary appointments in the Department of Linguistics and the Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program.

Chancellor Joan Gabel has made no announcement yet on how she plans to proceed with a search for a new provost. Ann Cudd, who had been provost since 2018, left at the end of June to become president at Portland State University in Oregon.
