Homecoming activities start Oct. 3 leading up to Va. Tech game

Homecoming will kick off Oct. 3 with activities throughout the week leading up to the Pitt vs. Virginia Tech game on Oct. 8.

While many of the events are geared toward graduates and students of specific schools, there’s still plenty for all alumni (and anyone else interested) to participate in. Find a full list of activities and instructions on how to register at the Homecoming website.

Here’s a rundown of some of the key events:

Homecoming Kick-Off Event, 2-4 p.m. Oct. 3, William Pitt Union Plaza

AAAC Movie Night “Doorway to Distinction,” 7-9 p.m. Oct. 4: African American Alumni Council will host a virtual screening of “Doorway to Distinction,” a documentary reflecting the African American experience at Pitt and achievements of African American alumni.

University Stores Fashion Show, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 5, Schenley Quad: The 4th annual Fall Fashion Show will highlight handpicked apparel and merchandise designs. Student organizations will perform from 5:30-7 p.m. and the fashion show starts at 7.

ROC Talks, 7-9 p.m. Oct. 6, Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center: Hear TED-style keynote from Tre Tipton (A&S '19, SOC WK '23G), a young alumnus who tells the story of the trials he's faced and how he has found strength throughout his life.

Big Idea Center Open House, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 7, 3601 Forbes Ave.: Visit the new building for Pitt's hub for student innovation and entrepreneurship.

Archives & Special Collections Tour, 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 7, Hillman Library third floor: Take a special look inside the library’s Archives & Special Collections department with a curated tour, exploring exhibits featuring select materials from the August Wilson Archive, the George A. Romero Archival Collection, and the Barry Rosensteel Japanese Print Collection. Each tour limited to 15 people.

Chancellor's University update, 3-4 p.m. Oct. 7, University Club Ballroom B: Hear directly from Chancellor Patrick Gallagher (A&S '87G, '91G) about the most up-to-date happenings at the University of Pittsburgh. Submit questions for the chancellor when you register.

Pitt Band (The Snake), 3:15-4 p.m. Oct. 7, starts in the William Pitt Union and ends at the Cathedral of Learning. The band will perform school songs and crowd favorites during the march and the subsequent concert at the Cathedral of Learning.

Blue and Gold Bash, 6-8 p.m. Oct. 7: Join the Pitt Alumni Association for a celebration of all things blue and gold! Free food, family friendly activities, and more.

Homecoming Fireworks and Laser Show, 9-9:30 p.m. Oct. 7,  Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes and Fifth avenues: The Pitt Program Council presents a display of fireworks and lasers timed to music as Bigelow Boulevard and the Cathedral of Learning are lit up in celebration of homecoming.

Homecoming Tailgate, Great Lawn on the North Shore: Time is TBD based on game time. The event will start 2.5 hours before kickoff.
