Hoopla coming to Petersen Events Center on Jan. 17

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion will once again host Hoopla at the Jan. 17 Pitt women’s basketball team game against Syracuse.

The event promotes the advancement of Pitt women by highlighting female leaders, promoting cross-campus networking and supporting the women’s basketball team. This year, participants will hear from the team’s new head coach, Lance White.

Hoopla was started in the early 2000s by Jean Ferketish, associate professor in the School of Education and former assistant chancellor and secretary of the Board of Trustees. At first, it was just for the University’s female leaders to have a dinner before a basketball game, but now has been broadened to open to all of Pitt’s female faculty and staff members.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion also will have a table set up with information about a new women’s affinity group it is trying to form, according to Pam Connelly, vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion.

Hoopla kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center with a reception and buffet dinner, where new women staff will be welcomed. Coach White will speak at 5:30 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m.

All Pitt women are invited to attend. RSVP here.
