Pitt’s Office of Community and Government Relations, Pitt Police and Staff Council are partnering with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for September’s Hunger Action Month to raise money for two Oakland food pantries.

Contributions will go to the Pitt Pantry, located in the basement of Bellefield Presbyterian Church and open to members of the Pitt community, and the Oakland Community Human Services Food Pantry, at 370 Lawn St. in South Oakland. A contribution of $10 can provide 50 meals.

Donations will be accepted via the campaign donation page or at several in-person events in September. Only credit card donations are being accepted — no food, cash or checks.

Give in-person events at:

  • Pitt Farmers Market on Sept. 5, 12 and 28 outside William Pitt Union
  • Staff Council general meeting on Sept. 18 at 102 Benedum Hall
  • Pitt football game on Sept. 21 against the University of Central Florida
  • Healthy U Fair on Sept. 25 on the lawn of William Pitt Union

Staff and faculty also are encouraged to volunteer at the monthly Produce-to-People food distribution service event at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne. The next event is Sept. 12. Transportation is provided to the food band. Register at cgr.pitt.edu/community.
