Children’s, Magee win awards

The new Children’s Hospital building recently received three local awards: the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Professional Engineers Society; the Master Builders Association Excellence Award for a new construction project in excess of $10 million, and the Commercial Project of the Year Award from the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania for development, design and construction of the hospital.

Magee-Womens Hospital has received The Partner for Change Award and also the DEHP-free Award from Practice Greenhealth for environmental improvement.

The Partner for Change Award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand their environmental programs on the path to sustainability.

The DEHP-free Award is given to the hospital or system that demonstrates the most success replacing medical devices containing di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, a commonly used plasticizer, with safer alternatives.
