March 13: Pitt goes to Harrisburg

Final preparations are being made for the annual Pitt Day in Harrisburg. Jennifer L. Poller, manager of alumni advocacy, said six buses are scheduled to take participants from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg for the March 13 event, which will include meetings with legislators and opportunities to advocate for public support for the University. Groups also will be sent from Pitt’s Greensburg and Bradford campuses.

Although the March 1 bus trip registration deadline has passed, some space remains for last-minute participants, said Poller, adding that many other Pitt advocates plan on arriving in Harrisburg on their own. Upon arrival, individuals should register on the lower level of the Capitol, she said.

Poller said she is seeing broader interest University-wide, including at the regionals and from students and parents.

For those who are unable to travel to Harrisburg, letter writing is an option, Poller said. She also encouraged visits to legislators’ district offices.

Pitt Day registration and information and tips on writing to legislators and newspaper editors can be found at www.keeppittpublic.pitt.edu.
