MLIS program to be offered online

The School of Information Sciences will offer its Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program through Pitt Online beginning this fall.

The 36-credit program can be completed online (with minimal on-campus requirements) within two years. The online program will provide the same foundational knowledge and practical skills as the on-campus program. Students will have access to courses and advising from the School of Information Sciences as well as support services through virtual access to the University’s comprehensive digital library and a wide range of instructional materials.

The MLIS program is asynchronous in nature, which allows students to access their courses anytime, from anywhere. Pitt Online provides collaborative tools such as discussion boards, blogs, chat sessions, virtual classrooms and groups. Each term there will be an on-campus session that provides an opportunity for face-to-face interactions.
