Applications sought for Manners awards

The University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) is seeking applicants for the annual Steven D. Manners Faculty Development Awards. Two awards of up to $10,000 each for pilot research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences will be awarded, with special consideration given to applications that are related to areas of particular  interest to UCSUR or applications utilizing data collected by UCSUR.

The awards honor Manners, who worked at UCSUR for 26 years and was assistant director at the time of his death in 2000.

Proposals will be judged on scientific merit; background and experience of investigator; adequacy of resources and environment; appropriateness of budget; likelihood that pilot work will lead to external peer-reviewed funding, and relevance to UCSUR focus areas.

Full-time faculty researchers from all Pitt campuses are eligible.

A one-page letter of intent describing the proposed project and the application are due Feb. 28. To submit materials by mail, send four copies of the letter of intent and application to Richard Schultz, director, UCSUR, 3343 Forbes Ave., room 212. Electronic submissions should be sent to Anna Aivaliotis at annaca@pitt.edu.

Applicants selected to submit full proposals will be notified two weeks later; final applications are due April 28.
