Pitt-Bradford campaign nets $20 million

Pitt-Bradford celebrated the conclusion of its 50 and Beyond Capital Campaign March 27 with the news that the campaign had raised $20 million, thanks in part to several last-minute gift pledges. The goal had been $17.5 million.

The campaign, begun in 2006, officially concluded on Dec. 31, 2014, after attracting 4,041 donors. Their contributions included $4.3 million to create 81 new scholarships. More than 3,300 students have already received one of these scholarships during the campaign.

The eight-year fundraising effort also built several new buildings, including three new residence halls and the Harriett B. Wick Chapel, adding 180,118 square feet to campus. It also provided funds to undertake the renovation of Swarts and Fisher halls and the Kessel Athletic Complex. The new Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit in the Seneca Building is slated for completion in 2016.

Fifty-nine percent of Pitt-Bradford employees contributed to the faculty/staff campaign of 50 and Beyond.

The campaign-capping celebration, attended by 350 in the Bromeley Family Theater in Blaisdell Hall, heard from UPB President Livingston Alexander, as well as campaign co-chairs Greg Booth, president and chief executive officer of Zippo Manufacturing Co., and Harvey Golubock, president of ARG Resources and CEO of Terra Green Energy.

Also speaking were Betsy Matz, associate professor of business management, and Bob Dilks, director of transfer and nontraditional student recruitment, who co-chaired the faculty/staff campaign, and Yara Elbeshbishi, a chemistry major from Montgomery Village, Maryland, and president of the Student Government Association, who was one of the new scholarship recipients.

Said Alexander: “I can’t imagine what the campus might look like if we didn’t have friends and supporters who believe in our mission … and give of their time, talent and treasure to ensure we advance our shared vision.”

Pitt-Bradford President Livingston Alexander announces during a March 27 campaign victory celebration that UPB’s fundraising campaign had exceeded its goal, bringing in $19,990,232. Later that day, an anonymous donor contributed $9,768 to bring the total to an even $20 million.
