End near for study of Pitt-CMU libraries?

The end may be in sight for a year-long study of how Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University libraries can cooperate (see University Times, Dec. 4, 2014).

Dean Ronald Larsen of the School of Information Sciences, who has chaired the review committee with CMU Dean of University Libraries Keith Webster, said: “My current understanding is that the final report is now undergoing a final editing pass and will likely be sent to the CMU president and Pitt chancellor before the holiday break.”

In the past 12 months the committee, whose final report initially was expected last June, has met to consider the issues, held workshops with library staff members and made an interim report to both institutions’ provosts. Potential collaborative areas, Larsen earlier told the University Times, are expanding access to scholarly resources, sharing off-site storage and managing research data.
