Irvis Tribute

Community leaders, archivists, and friends of the K. Leroy Irvis family gathered Feb. 10 outside the Irvis Room at Hillman Library for a tribute to the civil rights leader during Black History Month. Irvis, a Pitt alumnus and emeritus trustee who made contributions to education throughout his lifetime, also was an artist. Below: Cathryn L. Irvis presented to Pitt’s K. Leroy Irvis Archives two busts and two large African masks that her husband created. Pictured with her is grandson Glynn Alexander Irvis Hill. The new pieces of artwork will be considered for a future display in the Irvis Room. Currently, the room highlights Irvis’ work associated with education, the theme of this year’s Black History Month.
