Human Resources Study to Focus on Various Aspects of Compensation

TR-web-stacked

The University of Pittsburgh has a diverse staff community – a unique multigenerational demographic of nearly equal parts Baby Boomers, Generation X-ers and Millennials – and staff members in these generations may be working toward different goals. Staff may place differing values on benefits such as saving for retirement, furthering their education, caring for growing families and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Acknowledging these differences, the Office of Human Resources has recently launched a study that will identify and formalize the Total Rewards program. The study is a wide-ranging program that involves evaluation of base pay, benefits, professional development, work-life balance and recognition. The study will include creating a Total Rewards compensation philosophy, assessing base pay through market comparisons, measuring the value of benefits and perquisites and developing career pathways, among other goals.

Managers and staff can expect the Total Rewards study timeline to be conducted in rolling phases. With the help of an advisory board, the Office of Human Resources will conduct the study, beginning with a detailed data collection from University staff. Sibson Consulting will then assist Pitt with a broad job analysis and an external market-based assessment to build the rewards package.

Information is available on the Total Rewards website regarding the projected timeline, as well as answers to frequently asked questions (employee login required). For those who wish to participate in feedback opportunities, focus groups and town hall meetings open to the University community will be conducted throughout the study. For additional questions, e-mail the Total Rewards team at total.rewards@pitt.edu.
