Bike to Work Day Set for May 19

Bike riders participate in Bike to Work Day activities at Schenley Plaza

Parking, Transportation & Services is hosting its annual event on Schenley Plaza in collaboration with BikePGH to mark National Bike to Work Day.

Bike commuters can enjoy free coffee and breakfast, prizes and giveaways on the plaza 7:30–10 a.m. on Friday, May 19.

Partnering with the Parking Services Office are the Pitt Police, Oakland Transportation Management Association, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Staff Association Council, Pitt Bicycle Collective, Pittsburgh Bike Share (Healthy Ride) and Port Authority of Allegheny County.

Pitt Police will offer bike safety inspections and members of the campus community can register their bikes through parking services.

Raffle prizes include a U-lock, bike lights and more.

In addition, Port Authority will bring its demo bus-bike rack — a replica of the ones on the front of every Port Authority bus — so commuters can practice making multi-modal connections in a low-stress environment.

Healthy Ride bikes will be free all day on May 19, so those without bicycles can use the bike-share system to bike to work. Users must pre-register for an account at HealthyRidePGH.com or via the NextBike app to check out a bicycle.

National Bike to Work Day is an initiative of the League of American Bicyclists cycling advocacy organization.
