In Brief: Diversity and Inclusion Mini-Grants, Senate Council NotifyU Text Alerts, Joncaire Street Steps Closure

Apply Now for Diversity and Inclusion Mini-Grant

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is now offering $2,000 mini-grants for new initiatives that increase campus diversity and inclusion, which are core values in the University’s strategic plan.

ODI mini-grants will fund research and programming proposals that create a welcoming work and learning environment; increase student, faculty and staff success among members of underrepresented groups; and improve teaching and learning about diversity at Pitt.

All University of Pittsburgh faculty, staff and students are eligible to submit proposals online by the Nov. 1 deadline for this semester’s grants. Proposals may include partnerships with other University units or community groups. Winners, chosen by ODI, will be announced shortly after the deadline.

Joncaire Street Steps Close for Replacement Construction

The Joncaire Street public stairway closed on Oct. 9 as construction work began to remove and replace the 136 stair-connector between Panther Hollow and Central Oakland. The replacement project is a joint partnership between the Oakland Transportation Management Association (OTMA) and the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works.

OTMA reports that there will be no closures of Joncaire Street as part of the steps replacement project and that flaggers will be necessary, at times, to maintain one lane of alternating traffic. The project is scheduled to be completed in summer 2018.

More information about this and other Oakland-area projects is available at OTMA’s website.
